Sunday, October 12th  2:30- 4:30 (Please arrive on time)
Sticks and Stones Farm features a wide variety of habitats—a mountain, meadows, woods, cultivated areas, fields, and wetlands—all loaded with their associated wild plants and mushrooms. Nuts will be at their peak, and we'll be on the lookout for black walnuts, butternuts, shagbark hickories, white oaks, and hazelnuts. Autumn fruits will also be in season. We'll be looking for smooth sumac, wild raisins, American hackberries, flavorful wild apples, hawthorn berries, autumn olives, and common spicebush berries. Herbs, greens and roots such as ramps, sassafras, lamb's-quarters, burdock, common evening primrose, field garlic, sheep sorrel, mullein, and wild carrots may also be in evidence. This is a great time for mushrooms, especially if there's been lots of rain beforehand. We'll look for chicken mushrooms, hen-of-the-woods, honey mushrooms, puffballs, meadow mushrooms, and oyster mushrooms.

$25/adult, $10/child under 12.

Map of Sticks and Stones Farm
201 Huntingtown Road, Newtown, CT 06470
Telephone 203-270-8820

DIRECTIONS:  If you Map Quest us, DO NOT use their directions once you get to Hattertown Road as they send you very roundabout!

If you are using GPF enter the #197 instead of # 201, but once here, please come in the driveway marked #201.  Thank you.

From Route 84 in north Newtown, take Route 25 South to light at Meadowbrook Road at Swanky Franks Hot Dog stand. Take a right onto Meadowbrook and follow to end. At end of Meadowbrook take a Left onto Huntingtown Road; 1.5 miles to Sticks and Stones on left.

From Route 15 (Merritt Parkway), exit onto Route 25 North. Take a left at Route 59 and then immediate right onto Hattertown Road.  At your third stop sign,   turn right on to Huntingtown Road. Sticks and Stones Farm is on the right, #201

For a more backroad, scenic, and often faster route, or from RTE 59:

From Route 15 (Merritt Parkway) heading North take exit 42. At bottom of ramp, turn left.  Go to light and turn Left onto 136.  Stay on this road going straight all the way.  You will come to a 4 way stop where 136 turns left, but continue straight.
You are now on rte 59.
Continue going straight on this road until you come to a light at the intersection of Stanley Road.  Turn Left onto Stanley. (if you come to rte 25 you have gone one light too far) Turn Left at  first stop onto Hattertown.  Go two more stops and make a  right onto Huntingtown.  We are a half mile on  Right.
